What Are Neurotoxins?

A Neurotoxin is a substance that alters the structure or function of the nervous system. Well, what does that mean? Long story short, BOTOX®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®, are made from botulinum toxin type A, a diluted, purified protein derived from a bacteria, known as clostridium botulinum. Injecting these neurotoxins cause the targeted muscles to become paralyzed, relaxing them and making it so that they cannot contract. This in turn diminishes those unwanted facial wrinkles and fine lines. In other words, they are muscle relaxers that can be used for cosmetic and medical purposes - they help you feel better, look fresher, healthier and more youthful.

How are BOTOX®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®, used?

Treatments typically consist of administering small amounts of these Neurotoxins, with extra-thin needles, into several areas of targeted muscles. Treatments only take a few minutes and the areas can be numbed with topical anesthetics beforehand to minimize discomfort.

Where can BOTOX®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®, be injected?

Each Neurotoxin has been FDA approved for certain areas. But, there are some off label areas that we can use Neurotoxins for as well. Typically we can treat frown lines, crow's feet, forehead lines, vertical lip lines, bunny lines on the nose, gummy smiles, skin bands on the neck, and more. Make an appointment for a FREE CONSULTATION to discuss areas that we can treat.

The difference between static and dynamic lines and wrinkles.

When you make facial expressions, muscles contract. When muscles contract, the surrounding skin may "bunch" or "stretch", causing unwanted lines and/or wrinkles. Dynamic lines/wrinkles are those that appear only when muscles contract, ie. when making facial expressions. Static lines are those that appear even when the face is relaxed and occur from the over-use or repeated contractions of the facial muscles. Neurotoxins help to relax these contracted muscles, which in turn helps to eliminate dynamic lines/wrinkles. Unfortunately, when an individual has static lines/wrinkles, we are not able to reverse the effects that contractions had on the skin and therefore cannot eliminate the lines/wrinkles, but instead can smooth them and fade them out.

Who injects BOTOX®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®?

At BeaYOUtiful Health and Wellness Center, we have a Nurse Practitioner who has been trained and certified in administering Neurotoxins.

What are the differences between BOTOX®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®?

There are subtle differences between the three Neurotoxins including the onset, response time and longevity of treatment. We will discuss this with you and help you decide which treatment is best to achieve your goals during your Make an appointment for a FREE CONSULTATION to discuss which treatment would be best for you.

Will I see immediate results?

You will not see immediate effects. The Neurotoxins can take up to 14 days to reach maximum effect. After the injections you may notice small amounts of redness or swelling around the injection sites. This is normal and should resolve within 30-60 minutes after the treatment. There should be minimal to no bleeding or bruising after treatment. Although, it is important to remember that no two people are the same and therefore may react differently or notice effects at different times.

How long does the treatment last?

The effects of Neurotoxins can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months. As time goes on, you will notice muscle movement gradually returning and the lines/wrinkles will begin to reappear. When this occurs, you may return for additional treatments. The lines/wrinkles often appear less severe as treatments are continued, due to the muscles being trained to relax. We suggest having treatments done before full muscle movement returns. An important note to make is that areas with increased metabolism, or blood flow, like around the lips, do not last as long. Therefore, these areas may need to be treated more often.

How much do the injections cost?

Prices vary depending on which Neurotoxin is used and the location(s) targeted. Many facilities charge per area, (example: a set amount for the eyes or forehead, ect). But, at BeaYOUtiful Health and Wellness Center, we understand that each individual has different wants and needs. Not everyone will need the same amount of Neurotoxin, so why should everyone be charged the same? We constantly have promotions and specials, which help to save costs. Make sure you sign up for our newsletter so you don't miss out. We also offer VIP packages that include complementary touch ups and allow you to return on a regular basis for a discounted rate. We do suggest that you avoid using certain medications and supplements that can thin the blood, which could lead to bruising and bleeding after the treatment. You should consult your provider before discontinuing any medications or supplements that have been prescribed or recommended for medical conditions.

  • Fish Oil ... Stop 10 days prior to procedure,

  • NSAIDs (Aspirin. Aleeve, Motrin, Ibuprofen) ... stop 3 days prior to procedure.
Note: ASA 81mg (baby aspirin) used for heart disease can be continued.

When can I start Neurotoxins?

We treat women and men over the age of 18. It has been said that the sooner you begin treatment the better. As we get older and use our facial muscles, we develop static lines which are harder to treat, therefore if you start treating the fine lines and wrinkles before they become static or "permanent" for a lack of better words, you have more chances to get better results.

Will I have that FROZEN look?

Neutotoxins help to relax the muscles enough to prevent or reduce the amount of fine lines and wrinkles. It should not hinder facial expressions. Here at BeaYOUtiful Health and Wellness Center, we strive for natural looking results, which means we never use more product than you need. You will look like a more youthful and refreshed, natural you while still being able to express yourself!

What are the side effects of Neurotoxins?

Temporary bruising, redness and mild swelling are the most common side effects. Although some individuals do not bruise after treatment, if a bruise dose occur, it may be visible for as long as 7-10 days. Therefore, please be sure to consider this when selecting your treatment date. A small percentage of people may develop eyelid drooping, which is temporary and will resolve within three weeks. Drooping usually happens due to the neurotoxins moving  and spreading around. It is important to be aware of the WHAT TO AVOID AFTER TREATMENT GUIDELINES. This will be discussed at the visit as well.

What should I avoid after treatment?

It is important to keep the Neurotoxin in the targeted area to prevent any temporary unwanted drooping. This can be done by the following:

  • Do not massage or rub the area that was injected for 12 hours after treatment.

  • Do not lie down for 1 hour after treatment. Make sure you stay upright.

  • Do not wear hats for 6 hours after treatment.

  • Do not exert yourself. This means things such as going to the gym, going on brisk walks, etc.

  • Do not participate in activities that will stimulate blood flow or deliver heat to the skin, which can promote bruising and reduced effectiveness of the Neurotoxins. These activities include: hot tubs, saunas, cooking over hot stove for 12 hours after treatment.

Who should not be treated with Neurotoxins?

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or those who have a neurological disease should not use Neurotoxins.

Can the effects of neurotoxins be reversed?

No, the effects of Neurotoxins are not reversible. Although, they are temporary and last about 3-4 months.

Does Insurance pay for Neurotoxins?
